How to Remove Red Wine Stains from Carpet
There are many mixtures and solutions out there, but most carpet experts agree that water, soup — dish soap liquid will do or laundry detergent — and vinegar will do the trick to remove red stains in your carpet.
The first and most important thing to do before mixing any solution is to soak up as much of the red stain as you can in a clean towel.
Use a dab or press technique. Do not scrub the stain.
Make a cleaning solution
Mix 1 tablespoon (15 g) of dishwashing liquid, 1 tablespoon of white vinegar (15 g), and 2 cups (16 oz) of warm water in a bowl. Mix it well, combining the three ingredients together. Source: WikiHow
Take a clean towel and dab into the cleaning solution. Then, dab onto the red stain, soaking up the stain from the carpet.
Finally, take cold water and do the same thing — dab the stain.
There are other stronger solutions that you can make if the red stain is still evident, larger, or if the stain has been left sitting. Although, you should not leave the red stain sitting; address it as soon as possible.
Other solutions include:
- Dish soap + hydrogen peroxide
- Water + baking soda + vacuum
- White wine + salt (let it sit for 8 hours) + vacuum
Professional carpet cleaners have various solutions and methods like Hot Water Extraction that can remove red stains from carpet completely.
